O Campeonato Brasileiro da Série B de 2026 voltará a ter playoffs depois de 24 anos. A última vez foi em 2002. Depois, até 2005, os acessos eram definidos por meio de quadrangulares e, de 2006 a 2025, o formato de pontos corridos foi adotado.
Na próxima edição, que começará em março, os 20 times vão se enfrentar em turno e returno na primeira fase, como já acontecia anteriormente. Os dois primeiros sobem automaticamente para a Série A. As outras duas vagas sairão das disputas entre 3º x 6º e 4º x 5º, com jogos de ida e volta.No modelo se assemelha com o que ocorre nas principais ligas da Europa, com a diferença de que, no Brasil, são quatro acessos para primeira divisão, enquanto que países do continente europeu adotam três promoções.
A medida foi aprovada no Conselho Técnico da CBF, realizado nesta quinta-feira (5) no Rio de Janeiro, por 17 votos a três.
Agora neste novo formato, o terceiro colocado enfrentará o sexto colocado, enquanto o quarto e o quinto colocados medirão forças pela outra vaga. Os confrontos acontecem em jogos de ida e volta. Campeão e vice sobem automaticamente, como já acontece. A pedido dos clubes, a Série B não vai parar na Copa do Mundo.
