Responsável por gerir categorias com etapas no Brasil e pilotos do país como a Fórmula 1, Fórmula E, Fórmula 2 e Fórmula 3, a Federação Internacional do Automobilismo (FIA) anunciou a criação de um escritório no Rio de Janeiro, em parceria com a Confederação Brasileira de Automobilismo (CBA). Esta será a primeira agência da entidade fora da Europa desde sua fundação em 1904.
O anúncio foi feito durante o Congresso Americano da FIA, realizado na Guatemala. O escritório da FIA no Brasil será comandado pelo assistente internacional da CBA, Renato Corrêa, que, por sua vez, prestará contas para Fabiana Ecclestone, vice-presidente de esportes na América do Sul e esposa de Bernie Ecclestone, ex-CEO da Fórmula 1.
A FIA também está à frente de Fórmula E, Fórmula 2 e Fórmula 3, modalidades que têm brasileiros presentes (e fazendo bonito). Atualmente, os únicos pilotos brasileiros na Fórmula 1 são Pietro Fittipaldi, reserva da Haas, e Felipe Drugovich, suplente na Aston Martin e atual campeão da Fórmula 2.
A criação do escritório reforça a importância estratégica do Brasil para a entidade. O país atualmente sedia uma das etapas do campeonato de Fórmula 1, o Grande Prêmio (GP) de São Paulo, além do ePrix de Fórmula E, também realizado na capital paulista.
