O paulista Alison dos Santos, o Piu, conquistou a medalha de prata no Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo, disputado em Tóquio, no Japão. Nesta sexta-feira (19), o brasileiro ficou na segunda posição dos 400 metros com barreiras, superado pelo norte-americano Rai Benjamin. Abderrahman Samba, do Catar, completou o pódio.
Piu não largou bem, esbarrou na primeira barreira, mas se recuperou durante a prova e a finalizou em 46s84. Atual campeão olímpico, Benjamin concluiu o percurso em 46s52.
O norte-americano inicialmente foi desclassificado por ter derrubado a barreira de sua raia e deslocado a do lado, o que poderia infringir a regra TR22.6.3, da World Athletics, que é a federação internacional de atletismo. Por alguns instantes, o brasileiro herdou o primeiro lugar, mas a confederação dos Estados Unidos entrou com recurso e conseguiu reverter a punição de seu atleta.
“Claro, a gente queria o ouro, mas estou orgulhoso da trajetória, do resultado de hoje [sexta-feira]. Acho que é isso que importa. É estar ali, chegar na final, entregar 100%, e eu posso falar que me entreguei nessa prova, que eu me esforcei, que eu tinha todo mundo que fez parte dessa preparação comigo”, comemorou Piu, em depoimento à Confederação Brasileira de Atletismo (CBAt).
Campeão mundial em Eugene, nos Estados Unidos, em 2022, Piu não foi ao pódio na edição do ano seguinte, em Budapeste, na Hungria, quando competiu após se recuperar de uma lesão no joelho. Na ocasião, o título ficou com o norueguês Karsten Warholm. Na final desta sexta, o escandinavo ficou apenas na quinta posição.
Foi também no Estádio Nacional de Tóquio que Piu conquistou a primeira medalha olímpica da carreira. Em 2021, ele foi medalhista de bronze, em uma prova histórica vencida por Warholm – com quebra de recorde mundial – e que teve Benjamin na segunda posição. Aquela foi considerada a final mais rápida dos 400 metros com barreiras em Olimpíadas.
A prata em Tóquio foi a segunda medalha do Brasil no Mundial deste ano. A primeira veio com o brasiliense Caio Bonfim na prova de 35 quilômetros da marcha atlética. Ele volta a competir ainda nesta sexta, a partir de 21h50 (horário de Brasília), nos 20 quilômetros, que é a distância olímpica. Nos Jogos de Paris, na França, em 2024, Caio foi prata.
