O meia Thiago Alcântara, brasileiro naturalizado espanhol, anunciou nesta segunda-feira (8) sua aposentadoria do futebol, aos 33 anos. Desde 2020 no Liverpool, o jogador sofreu com lesões em sequência e disputou apenas uma partida na última temporada. Algumas semanas atrás, o clube inglês anunciou que não iria renovar seu contrato, encerrado no dia 30 de junho.
“Estarei sempre disposto a retribuir o que me foi dado e sou grato pelo tempo que desfrutei. Obrigado, futebol. E a todos que me acompanharam e me tornaram um jogador e uma pessoa melhor ao longo do caminho”, escreveu Thiago nas redes sociais.
Filho do ex-jogador Mazinho, campeão da Copa de 1994 com a seleção brasileira, Thiago nasceu em San Pietro Vernotico, na Itália, quando seu pai atuava no Lecce. Aos três anos, mudou-se para a Espanha, acompanhando a carreira de Mazinho, que jogou no Valencia e, depois, no Celta de Vigo. Com duas opções de cidadania, além da brasileira, Thiago optou por defender a seleção da Espanha e disputou a Copa do Mundo da Rússia em 2018 e a Eurocopa realizada em 2021. Esteve na lista preliminar da Espanha para o Mundial de 2014, no Brasil, mas acabou cortado por uma lesão no joelho. Ele também á tinha perdido a Eurocopa de 2012 e as Olimpíadas de Londres, no mesmo ano, também por contusão.
Revelado pelo Barcelona, o volante de toque refinado ajudou o clube a conquistar 10 títulos entre 2009 e 2013, incluindo quatro Campeonatos Espanhóis e a Liga dos Campeões da Uefa de 2009/11. Thiago se transferiu para o Bayern de Munique, onde venceu mais uma Champions League (2019/20) e sete Campeonatos Alemães, entre outros títulos.
