A proposta do Grupo City ainda não chegou ao Bahia, e o Tricolor ainda não se tornou uma Sociedade Anônima do Futebol (SAF), mas os planos dos donos do Manchester City para o Esquadrão já começam a sair do papel. Depois de abrir conversas com João Paulo Sampaio, do Palmeiras, o Grupo City agora entrou em contato com Rui Costa, diretor de futebol do São Paulo. A informação foi divulgada inicialmente pelo jornalista Jorge Nicola e confirmada pelo ge na tarde desta segunda-feira. De acordo com a apuração do ge, até agora o contato com Rui Costa (está a esquerda na foto ) foi apenas uma sondagem.A ideia do árabes é contar com os dois profissionais. Rui Costa é alvo para atuar como CEO do Bahia. Em relação a João Paulo Sampaio, ainda não há uma definição sobre o possível cargo a ser ocupado pelo profissional, que atualmente trabalha na base do Palmeiras.
Rui Costa iniciou o trabalho no São Paulo em 2021. Antes, ele esteve no Atlético-MG e também acumula passagens por Grêmio, Chapecoense e Athletico Paranaense.
Ele se destaca pelo trabalho realizado na Chapecoense, onde ajudou a reestruturar o time após a tragédia aérea de 2016. No ano seguinte, a Chape venceu o estadual e conseguiu uma vaga na Libertadores via Campeonato Brasileiro.

O Bahia não se manifesta oficialmente sobre as conversas com o Grupo City, mas o presidente Guilherme Bellintani já viajou para Inglaterra para se reunir com o Grupo no início de abril.
O Conselho Deliberativo do Bahia, inclusive, montou uma comissão para discutir o assunto SAF no clube. Caso receba uma proposta, essa comissão vai formular um parecer, que será votado em Assembleia Geral dos Sócios.
Ao todo, o Grupo City conta com 11 clubes, encabeçado pelo time de Manchester. Os demais são: Bolívar, da Bolívia; Troyes, da França; Lommel SK, da Bélgica; Mumbai City, da Índia; Sichuan Jiuniu, da China; Girona, da Espanha; Montevideo City Torque, do Uruguai; Yokohama F.
