Uma das mudanças mais esperadas em relação ao novo calendário da CBF foi o aumento no número de participantes da Série D: a partir de 2026, a Quarta Divisão passará dos atuais 64 clubes para 96. Outra novidade é o acesso: seis times ascenderão à Série C.
A medida beneficiou os 32 times classificados para a segunda fase deste ano. Como quatro deles conseguiram o acesso (Barra-SC, Santa Cruz, Maranhão e Inter de Limeira), a CBF adotou uma solução para substituí-los: premiar mais quatro federações com uma segunda vaga, segundo o Ranking Nacional de Federações a ser divulgado no fim de ano.
Com esses 32 pré-classificados, os outros 64 times participantes da quarta divisão de 2026 seguiriam o mesmo critério adotado desde 2022:
- Os quatro rebaixados da Série C do ano anterior;
- O primeiro estado do RNF (Ranking Nacional das Federações) tem direito a quatro representantes
Do segundo ao nono estado do RNF têm direito a três representantes cada; - Do décimo ao vigésimo terceiro estado do RNF têm direito a dois representantes cada;
- Os demais estados têm um representante cada.
É exatamente esse último grupo, formado atualmente pelas federações de Roraima, Rondônia, Mato Grosso do Sul e Amapá, que seria beneficiado com mais uma vaga.
Uma novidade na distribuição das vagas é o uso do Ranking Nacional de Clubes como critério (entenda mais abaixo). Apesar do aumento, o número de datas permanece: 24. A Série D 2026 começará no dia 5 de abril e irá até o dia 13 de setembro.
