Após fazer história e eliminar o Cruzeiro na terceira fase, a Juazeirense vai enfrentar o Santos nas oitavas de final da Copa do Brasil. A definição foi feita em sorteio realizado na sede da Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF), nesta terça-feira (22). A exemplo do que aconteceu nas fases anteriores, o Estádio Adauto Moraes pode ser o grande trunfo do Cancão de Fogo que decidira a sua sorte em casa.
Nas duas primeiras fases, quando aconteceu apenas um confronto, o Cancão se deu bem, pois no sorteio o Adauto Moraes, em Juazeiro, foi contemplado com os jogos: a equipe venceu o Sport/PE por 3 x 2, na primeira fase e na segunda fase eliminou o Volta Redonda/RJ nas penalidades máximas depois de empatar no tempo normal por 3 x 3.
Na terceira fase – já com confrontos de ida e volta – a Juazeirense se deu bem novamente em fazer a partida decisiva em seus domínios contra o Cruzeiro. No primeiro jogo em Belo Horizonte/MG perdeu por 1 x 0 e na partida de volta venceu por 1 x 0 e nas penalidades máximas eliminou o time celeste recordista de títulos na competição.
Novamente em sorteio, o Cancão foi bafejado pela sorte e fará o primeiro jogo em Santos, na Vila Belmiro e a decisão será em Juazeiro. Inicialmente, as datas das partidas estão projetadas para os dias 26 de julho e 7 de agosto. A agenda ainda será confirmada pela entidade máxima do futebol nacional. Caso vença o confronto contra o Santos, a Juazeirense levará para casa o valor de R$ 3.450.000,00. Nesta fase, da Copa do Brasil, o árbitro de vídeo (VAR) começará a ser utilizado.
