O Vitória acertou a contratação do zagueiro colombiano Cristián Zapata, com passagens por Udinese, Milan e Genoa, da Itália. O jogador de 37 anos estava livre no mercado desde o fim do contrato com o Atlético Nacional, clube que defendeu esta temporada. O defensor assina contrato até o final do ano que vem.
Zapata construiu boa parte da sua carreira no futebol italiano. Começou no Desportivo Cali, da Colômbia, e chegou à Itália pela primeira vez em 2005 para defender a Udinese, onde por seis anos até ir para o Villareal, da Espanha, em 2012. Ele seguiu valorizado e se transferiu para jogar pelo Milan na temporada 2012/13, substituindo Thiago Silva, que havia sido contratado pelo Paris Saint-Germain.
Zapata ficou sete anos no Milan e, na temporada 2019/20, se transferiu para o Genoa após estar na mira do Flamengo. De volta à Itália, o zagueiro não conseguiu ter muito destaque e foi para o San Lorenzo, da Argentina, clube no qual ficou até este ano, quando passou a defender o Atlético Nacional. De volta ao futebol colombiano, ele foi titular e disputou 49 partidas nesta temporada. Zapata também tem longa história na seleção colombiana, jogando inclusive as Copas do Mundo de 2014 e 2018.
