Bernardinho é novamente o técnico da seleção masculina de vôlei do Brasil. Aos 64 anos, o treinador foi escolhido como substituto de Renan Dal Zotto, que pediu demissão após a classificação brasileira para os Jogos de Paris 2024, em outubro deste ano. Coordenador das seleções masculinas, das equipes de base até a adulta, desde setembro deste ano, Bernardinho não deixará a função. Presidente da Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol (CBV), Radamés Lattari classificou Bernardinho como “solução ideal” a sete meses das Olimpíadas: “O Bernardinho tem qualidades indiscutíveis tecnicamente. Tem experiência, fazia parte do processo como coordenador, acompanhou o trabalho do Renan, então nada mais justo do que pensarmos no melhor para o vôlei brasileiro. E neste momento a solução ideal é o Bernardinho”.
Neste século, a seleção masculina de vôlei teve apenas dois treinadores: Bernardinho (2001 a 2016) e Renan Dal Zotto (2017 a 2023). Em setembro, Bernardinho assumiu o cargo de coordenador das seleções masculinas, das equipes de base até a adulta. Segundo a CBV, a missão de Bernardo na função é planejar o trabalho das equipes adultas e de base visando os Jogos Olímpicos de Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 e Brisbane 2032.
Com a seleção masculina, Bernardinho ainda conquistou três títulos em Mundiais, duas Copas do Mundo e oito Ligas Mundiais. Desde 2004, ele também segue ininterruptamente como técnico do projeto da equipe feminina de vôlei do Rio de Janeiro. Atualmente o Sesc-Flamengo é vice-líder da Superliga.
Amigo de Bernardinho, Dal Zotto deixou a seleção após vitória sobre a Itália, por 3 a 2, no pré-olímpico que garantiu o Brasil nos Jogos de Paris 2024. Por decisão familiar e orientação médica pediu demissão. Em 2021, o treinador chegou a ser hospitalizado em razão da Covid-19.
