O Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) está oficialmente de volta ao Brasil e terá como destaque o retorno de Charles do Bronx ao octógono nacional. A principal luta do Fight Night, marcado para o dia 11 de outubro, na Farmasi Arena, no Rio de Janeiro, colocará o brasileiro frente a frente com o cazaque Rafael Fiziev, 10º colocado no ranking dos pesos-leves. A informação foi confirmada pelo próprio UFC nesta quinta-feira (7) e antecipada pelo Estadão.
Sem cinturão em disputa, o evento terá Charles como grande atração da noite, reforçando a estratégia da organização de atrair o público local com um dos nomes mais populares do MMA brasileiro. Atual quarto colocado no ranking da categoria, o ex-campeão busca retomar o caminho rumo ao título perdido em 2022, quando foi finalizado por Islam Makhachev. Desde então, o paulista acumulou duas vitórias e duas derrotas, além de lidar com lesões que chegaram a cancelar a esperada revanche contra o russo.
O retorno ao Brasil tem peso emocional para Charles. Em março de 2020, ele derrotou Kevin Lee em Brasília, em uma edição do UFC realizada com portões fechados devido à pandemia de covid-19. A última vez que lutou com público em solo brasileiro foi ainda antes, em novembro de 2019, quando venceu Jared Gordon.
