A organização do GP de Mônaco da F-1 decidiu na tarde de ontem (19) cancelar a prova em decorrência da pandemia de coronavírus. Pela primeira vez desde 1954, a corrida mais tradicional da principal categoria do automobilismo não será disputada.
De acordo com comunicado da Automóvel Clube de Mônaco (ACM), organizador do Grande Prêmio, as restrições de fronteiras e falta de mão de obra devido ao vírus impossibilitam a realização do evento em 2020.
Disputado pela primeira vez em 1950, na temporada inaugural da F-1, o GP só deixou de ser realizado nos anos de 1951, 1953 e 1954 –a prova foi realizada em 1952, mas não foi considerada para o Mundial daquele ano.
Também nesta quinta, o príncipe Albert 2º, chefe de Estado de Mônaco, foi diagnosticado com coronavírus.
Horas antes do anúncio, a própria F-1 havia adiado a etapa, prevista inicialmente para ser realizada em 24 de maio, assim como as corridas da Holanda (3 de maio) e Espanha (10 de maio).
A primeira corrida da temporada da categoria seria realizada em Melbourne, Austrália, no circuito de Albert Park, no último dia 15, mas após recusa da McLaren em participar, depois de um funcionário ser diagnosticado com a doença Covid-19, a F-1 decidiu adiar o início do campeonato.
Caso não haja mais nenhuma mudança, o campeonato da F-1 será iniciado em Baku, no Azerbaijão, no dia 7 de junho.
Na quarta (18), a categoria já havia comunicado que aproveitaria o hiato sem corridas para adiantar as férias que normalmente ocorrem no meio da temporada. Tradicionalmente, em agosto, as equipes têm uma pausa de duas semanas na qual não podem trabalhar em seus carros.
A ideia é usar esse mês para repor algumas das corridas suspensas, mas ainda não está claro quais seriam realocadas. Até o momento, já foram cancelados ou suspensos os GPs de Mônaco, Holanda Espanha, Austrália, Bahrein, Vietnã e China.
