A terceira edição da Copa Vela Baía de Todos os Santos movimentou as águas da Península Itapagipana no meu reunindo mais de 50 embarcações nas classes Monotipo, Windsurf e Wing Foil. O evento teve como base a Guarderia Beira Mar, na praia da Ribeira, sob coordenação de Ubiracy Mesquita (Bira), velejador e presidente da instituição.
A programação começou com um café da manhã entre 8h e 11h, seguido de palestra técnica e concentração das embarcações na orla. A largada ocorreu às 13h30, com narração de Marcelo Fróes, que conduziu a transmissão para o público presente.
Participaram 52 barcos, distribuídos nas classes Hobie Cat 14, Hobie Cat 16, Supercat 17, Magnum, Day Sailer e Dingue, além das pranchas à vela de Windsurf e Wing Foil, modalidade que vem ganhando espaço entre os praticantes da Baía de Todos-os-Santos. Mesmo com condições de vento que chegaram a 28 nós (cerca de 45 km/h), as regatas transcorreram dentro da normalidade. Por segurança, o percurso foi montado próximo à costa, em área protegida, no formato “barla-sota”.
O trajeto aproximado da orla permitiu que banhistas acompanhassem de perto as manobras e disputas. O evento destacou-se pela diversidade entre os competidores. Na classe Wing Foil, o jovem João Bento Oliveira, de 11 anos, conquistou o segundo lugar. Já o velejador Fred Cardoso, de 80 anos, ficou em terceiro na classe Magnum 595, evidenciando a amplitude de idades envolvidas na competição.
A cerimônia de premiação contou com a presença de diversas autoridades e representantes do setor náutico, entre eles Nava Castro, prefeita de Ponteareas (Galícia, Espanha); Santiago Campo, presidente da Associação Náutica da Bahia (ANB) e da Soamar Salvador; e Moysés Cafezeiro, presidente do Observatório da Baía de Todos-os-Santos.
