Em casa, Tricolor construiu o resultado nos primeiros sete minutos do segundo tempo. Thaciano (x2) e Juninho marcaram os gols da vitória baiana
O primeiro tempo do duelo foi de poucas emoções em Pituaçu. Mesmo jogando fora de casa, o Santos teve o domínio da posse de bola, mas encontrou dificuldades para criar no ataque. As melhores oportunidades do jogo aconteceram depois dos 35 minutos. Enquanto o Peixe assustou em finalizações de Jean Mota e Marinho. O Bahia levou perigo com Rodriguinho.
Já no segundo tempo, o cenário da partida mudou completamente. E antes mesmo do primeiro minuto, o Tricolor abriu a contagem com Thaciano, após cruzamento na medida de Rossi. Placar aberto e o time da casa se manteve no ataque para marcar o segundo novamente com Thaciano e com mais uma assistência de Rossi, aos três minutos. E não parou por aí. Aos sete, foi a vez de Juninho aproveitar cruzamento na área para anotar o terceiro do Esquadrão.
Com a vantagem construída nos primeiros minutos da etapa final, o Tricolor passou a cadenciar o ritmo do jogo e controlou o resultado até o apito final garantindo os primeiros três pontos na competição.
