Nesta última quinta-feira (24) o Brasil lamentou o falecimento de José Adilson Rodrigues dos Santos, o Maguila. Lenda do pugilismo nacional, Maguila deixou saudades não só nos fãs de boxe, como de outras modalidades também.
O mestre de jiu-jitsu, quatro vezes Sul-Americano e campeão mundial da IBJFF Marcos Borges, falou ao Diplomatas News e Rádio Sociedade News sobre a perda de Maguila. Mesmo pertencendo ao jiu-jitsu, o famoso Marcão lembrou da importância de Maguila para a gerações que o viram: “É um lutador que inspirou muito a minha geração e outras também. Deixou um legado que inspirou as gerações mais novas, um cara que ralou muito, veio de baixo, de forma humilde. Excelente pessoa que conquistou fãs e admiradores dentro e fora dos ringues… Com sua persistência e luta, mostrou que não há sonho impossível”.
Já o professor de boxe e árbitro do Conselho Nacional de Boxe Roquelano de Souza, recordou das grandes lutas de Maguila dentro e fora dos ringues, comentando também sobre os perigos do boxe que podem causar a encefalopatia traumátia crônica, doença que acometeu o lutador. “Chegou ao nível de lutar com Evander Hollyfield, George Foreman, uma lenda. As lesões provocadas pelo esporte acaba sendo grande pelo nível de treinamento que dê tem de defesa. Os contatos pode causar lesões mais graves […] Me inspirou a seguir no meu esporte, eu vibrava com a força da mão direita de Maguila. Serviu de exemplo para nossos atletas”. Roquelano lembrou que Maguila chegou a ser líder do ranking no Conselho Mundial de Boxe e equiparou a outros grandes lutadores, como Mike Tyson: “Ele manteve o esporte vivo, foi um incentivador, era um cara e tanto“.
Também o vice-presidente da federação baiana de boxe e diretor técnico, Joilson Santana, prestou suas homenagens, reconhecendo o Maguila como ‘maior peso-pesado que o Brasil conheceu’: “Vai levar mais de cem anos para aparecer um novo Maguila, ele fez história no boxe amador e profissional. Ele reparou cada derrota com outra grande vitória“.
Joilson ainda comentou sobre a condição cerebral que levou Maguila a óbito: “No boxe, a maior causa de mortes não são relacionadas a situações como a que Maguila passou. O caso de Maguila foi específico, em quarenta anos de boxe nunca outro caso como o dele, então pode existir o fator hereditário. O boxe pode ter influência, mas não totalmente”.
Maguila foi campeão mundial de boxe e marcou toda uma era, sendo saudado por todos e lembrado por quem foi.
