Arcelino “Popó” Freitas anunciou oficialmente sua aposentadoria do boxe. O comunicado foi feito na noite desta segunda-feira (6), durante o evento de divulgação do Fight Music Show 7, em São Paulo. Aos 50 anos, o tetracampeão mundial pendura definitivamente as luvas, emocionado e com um desabafo carregado de mágoa após os episódios que se estenderam ao fim do Spaten Fight Night 2.
Retirado do card da próxima edição do FMS, onde enfrentaria o ex-BBB Diego Alemão, Popó se recupera de uma cirurgia na mão e está suspenso pelo Conselho Nacional de Boxe (CNB) em razão da pancadaria generalizada ocorrida na última luta contra Wanderlei Silva.
Durante a coletiva, o baiano não conteve as lágrimas e revelou que o episódio foi determinante para sua decisão de encerrar a trajetória nos ringues.
“Essa encarada aqui é uma encarada que a gente mostra quem é quem, tem um empurrãozinho que é normal, mas vamos selar a paz. A gente viu o que aconteceu na luta passada, vamos ser diferentes hoje. Vamos tocar a mão, sem empurrão, sem falta de respeito. Hoje aqui a gente sela a paz no nosso boxe brasileiro“, iniciou Popó, antes de se emocionar.
O ex-campeão mundial admitiu sentir vergonha do que viveu na luta anterior e afirmou que o sentimento pesou na escolha pela aposentadoria.
“Vocês não têm ideia de como foi vergonhoso pra mim passar pelo que eu passei em cima daquele ringue. Substituí alguém para o evento acontecer, não foi pelo dinheiro. E passar por aquela humilhação, de o cara subir em cima do ringue e me dar tanto soco, foi uma das piores da minha vida. Essa vergonha é um dos motivos de eu parar hoje. Foi muito vergonhoso pra mim, pra minha família. Nunca saí machucado de uma luta de boxe, e saí machucado porque o cara me agrediu fora da luta. Hoje eu penduro as luvas e digo: o boxe parou pra mim“, declarou.
Popó também reforçou que já cumpriu seu papel no esporte e agora deseja se afastar dos ringues para aproveitar a vida ao lado da família.
“Não tenho mais nada para provar pra ninguém. Foram sete campeonatos mundiais, fui supercampeão do mundo. Tenho 50 anos, tenho uma vida e netos pra curtir. Não tenho por que me expor tanto como aconteceu naquela luta“, afirmou.
Visivelmente abalado, o ex-pugilista voltou a chorar ao recordar o impacto emocional do episódio.
“Eu sei o quanto estou sofrendo com isso. Nunca fui agredido daquela forma. Foi vergonhoso pra mim e pro boxe. Eu não envergonhei o boxe, porque eu lutei boxe. Eu tenho vergonha do que fizeram comigo. Hoje eu paro… Sabe por que vocês falam pra eu não parar? Porque vocês não têm 50 anos“, encerrou Popó, aplaudido pelos presentes.
